SPC: A Specialty Job Service for Families
Summer Placement Consultants, Inc. is a summer job placement service matching high school and college students with families in need of summer childcare and/or household assistance. Jobs typically include living with a family for all or part of the summer. Students enjoy good salaries plus room and board. Job locations are often in resort areas such as Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Block Island, Fishers Island, the Hamptons, Maine, Rhode Island, California, the Oregon Coast, Colorado, Texas, and the Carolinas.

Help With the Kids
Families in need of "an extra pair of hands", during part or all of the summer, hire students through SPC. The majority of positions offered are as Mother's Helpers (also referred to as Summer Babysitters or Summer Nannies). The duties of a Mother's Helper pertain to the children - babysitting, their laundry, their simple meals, care of their rooms, getting them to their activities, keeping their toys in order, etc. Students may also be expected to help with the house clean-up and organization. Students typically work an eight hour day (not necessarily eight consecutive hours), have their evenings off and have at least one full day off per week. Most families will provide the student access to a car.

Assist with Daily Errands and Household Chores
Some families just need help with managing their day-to-day errands and household tasks. We refer to these positions as Granny Helper jobs, as they generally inolve an older family. Cooking, cleaning up, light housekeeping, grocery shopping and running errands are usual mainstays of these jobs. The student may also be expected to help entertain guests and do some gardening. Like the Mother's Helper position, students typically work an eight hour day (not necessarily eight consecutive hours), have their evenings off and have at least one full day off per week. Most families will provide the student access to a car.

Qualified and Thoroughly Screened Students
SPC maintains a relationship with many public and private high schools in the New England area, and a variety of colleges throughout the country. Each student who applies undergoes a lengthy application process, which includes an interview and multiple letters of recommendation. We check references and provide you the opportunity to do the same. Students are also required to have valid certification(s) in at least one of the following: CPR, Life Guard and/or First Aid. In addition, every student placed in a home undergoes a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check. Students must be 15 years of age to be placed in a position through SPC. The majority of students placed are 18 years of age or older. For the benefit of students, SPC requires that all employer families provide references that students or students parents may contact.

All Summer Long or a Month or a Few Weeks

Job durations can be for all or part of the summer. Many families will want their Summer Helper to start June 1 and continue through Labor Day. Some jobs are mid-June or July 1st through mid-August, to accommodate college schedules. July-only jobs and August-only jobs are possible. We can accommodate requests for 2-3 week periods at the end of August and into September.

Affordable Solution for the Summer
SPC charges a $210 non-refundable Application Fee that is required to be mailed in with the completed Family Application. For applications received after May 1st, the non-refundable Application Fee increases to $260. In addition, a Placement Fee is payable at the time of hiring. The placement fee is $495. [Note: for placements of two weeks or less, the Placement Fee is two-thirds that of the regular rate. If the student returns for one or more summers, the Placement Fee is one-half that of the regular rate for each additional summer, and there is no Registration Fee required.] The salary paid to the student is entirely up to the family, and does not involve SPC. Last year, as a guide, college students earned an average of $350 per week. Graduate students earned an average of $450 per week; High school students $250 per week.
